Swerve Press began as a small hope in early 2008, but soon became reality as Jason and Krista Barmer applied their talent, skill and some elbow grease to their passion for changing the conversation through the written word.

“We believe people want to ask questions, explore, search out, and journey. Too often, that hunger is stifled. We want to give authors and readers a unique place to inquire, venture out, and seek truth without fear.”

The first author to venture out with Swerve was Krista, under the pen name Krista Finch. With a penchant for marching to offbeat drums, Krista had completed a book, but didn’t know who would publish it.

“We started Swerve so authors like myself could keep their work as pure and genuine and edgy as possible. We started the kind of publishing company we, as authors, want to work with.”

Along the way, Jason and Krista have surrounded themselves with publishing industry veterans and fellow sojourners, and they are constantly learning the ins and outs of an ever-changing industry. But more than learning a business, they are listening to the heartbeat of the world around them and seeking to speak to what is at the core of everyday people.

“People want to know their questions about life and God are valid, even if those questions sound a bit odd. They want to believe there is more to a relationship with God than jumping through hoops to please the religious elite. So we’re going to publish books that can be picked up on the side roads of Christianity and the back-alleys of culture. Books that invite people on a life-long journey where they can encounter God in new and profound ways.”
